"The (After) Life Of The Party"
Life is pointless. It really is. No, this is not the post similar to Maxime’s. We already know I don’t believe in god, this just is one of my other brilliant views on the world.
What is life all about? Practically food & sex. Survival and reproducing. Passing on the genes(who has read Kaas en de Evolutiotheory? After Ina Daman & Catcher in the Rye, I’m going to reread that book). So basically we live to reproduce. Oh nice to know. It makes the rest rather pointless, doesn’t it?
What is the point of living besides reproducing? There must be more to it than that. Is it a great romance, a true love, a soulmate that makes it all worth it? Is an epic journey, a great discovery/invention what we need to makes our lives worth to have? I don’t know, I haven’t tried, I haven’t lived, I haven’t died. The shittiest thing about those things is that you only have one shot, one chance, one life, which isn’t much if you are not sure what to do with your life, were to go, if you make the wrong decisions. Besides what is the point if you’re going to die anyway? Well it’s not the dying part what sucks, it’s that nothing of you’re life will be remembered. Unless you did something amazing, worth remembering. We all know the story of the great Achilles. We still remember him after about 3000 years. He sure used h the time he had on earth well. But nowadays, we don’t have heroes like Achilles, Hektor, Ajax, Heracles anymore. What do we have? Crazy ass rockstars, historical persons who did great or horrible things to mankind, someone with a story often described as a miracle ("yeah, omg, I should have died!"). Famous people won’t die in a way. They life in the memory of their lives. But I don’t think I’m going to be famous (my character wouldn’t agree with it =P).
Do we leave a diary, to be remembered? I know only about 2 (kan zo snel maar 2 verzinnen) diaries of deceased people, who are sort of famous in their own way (I mean the diaries). Those of Anne Frank and Kurt Cobain. I don’t think I’ll end up in a war or I’ll commit suicide. Mmmh, suicide, it is a way to go. Go out with a bang that is. People will wonder why, make drama about it. Don’t think I ever could though.
But is being remembered worth living? Is that the point of living? Because reproducing can’t be the reason. The world is overcrowded, so not all lives are exactly useful too mankind or the earth. Are we here to make this world a better place? Well, were doing a lousy job. What is a perfect world? What is Utopia? A little girl would say something like were all the birds sing and we all can be princes and princesses. A junkie would probably say a place were you can get free joints. There could not be a world were we all live happily together btw. It’s not in the nature of mankind. We’d start a fight, a battle, a war anyhow. Are we actually just animals living on this planet? A planet where we could incidentally evolve into this being with a fokking big brain and a conscience? Are we supposed not to think about stuff like this at all and just follow the rules of nature; live, reproduce and die? No that can’t be it, nature itself caused us to have these questions. So what is the reason we are here? Is there anybody with an answer other than 42?
Ok on the afterlife I have a very short comment. I think believing in the afterlife is kinda for the weak, who have a lousy life atm. Or those who don't know better, als in zo hebben ze het altijd geleerd. I don’t know what there is after life, but I don’t think we’ll get into some sort of heaven or hell. I think those are make believes for ppl with shitty lives to increase popularity in faith. But if you were to believe in reincarnation (not afterlife), what would your past lives look like? Funny remarks on what you were are of course welcome, but please try to give a serious answer as well.

I think there is no point in life. If I believed in God, I would say we're here because he's testing us, he's trying to find out whether we're good enough for heaven. But I don't believe in God. So therefore I believe that there isn't really a reason why we live. I think humans started living as a mistake, and right now, we're just trying to make the best out of it. We think of theories to explain the creation of the world, we create religions to help us live our life. We use our religion as a guide in life, it lets us think that we are here for a reason.
In a sense I think something went horribly wrong in the past, which created mankind. From then on nobody could resist their sexual needs, so started reproducing. As a result of lack of contraception, too many people were born. Today, with our 6.6 billion people in the world, every single person lives for somebody else. They live because somebody else needs them.
So I guess the reason you're here is because somebody else needs you. In your case, that'd be your parents. They wanted you (I hope =P). But the reason mankind is here, is in my eyes non-existent. Somebody just blundered in the past.

I don't believe in reincarnation like you. I don't necessarily think it's for the weak, but it's for people that need an extra push. They need to believe in it because it gives them something to strive for. It's where they get their motivation to do good things from.
Same with religion. People use it as a guide to life because they can't think of their own goals and their own morals. It's not weak, it's just choosing the easy way out.
I love philosophy so much. Shame our school doesn't offer the course. I'm glad I spend an hour each day thinking about these kind of things though. Goed voor mn algemene ontwikkeling zullen we maar zeggen.
Easy way out if fine on a small scale i guess. I do it all the time with my hw. But to have your whole life set on the easy way ouy? You take no responsibility. You do not think about your acts. You just follow blindy. And you follow something you're not even sure of if it's true. You do not and can not know if that promised heaven really exsists.

Yes, not exaclty weak, more irresponsible and stupid. Laf maybe. Or just stupid. I mean, religion are mainly stories explaining stuff door een god. Not a lot of oberserving happend there I guess. Irresponsible in the way that you can blame god for all your actions. I believe every individu should think and take responsibility for its own actions. I can understand the need for a guide, but if i needed guidance i'd rather asked someone who'd be able to really answer my quistions. If there was not such a person, hell, my diary would do. I'd reread and think about the question.
About after life, i cannot say. I simply don't know what is after life, or if we reincarnate. This, however, does not give me the need to make stories about what there would be after you die.
I do believe in the evolutie theory. Or atleast big parts of it. It makes sense why everyone/thing would wanna fuck, get your genes pasted on. Only the best genes survive, making the soort beter. It explains in why we could have such big brains. maybe evolutie just fucked up and gave us too big brains, so we started with philosophy =P.
Basicly we are nothing more than living organisms which is possible due the earth's atmosphere.

There is no point to life if you do not believe in a divine entity that will redeem your soul upon leading a dry and boring life here on earth. As far as my idiotic persuasions go, I live to watch tv, drink and smoke too much for my own good, and have random premarital sex on as frequent a basis as possible.
Life is essentially what you make it to be, and it's value is left for you to judge. In regards to the afterlife, here's a quote by Evelyn Waugh;
"It is a curious thing that every creed promises a paradise that will be uninhabitable for anyone of civilised taste"
Quite frankly, life live to kiss a deity's ass only to continue doing so for eternity? No thank you. I will continue to live my cynical overindulgence in things that are unhealthy, but make this life fun and enjoyable :) Ah yes, god bless Cable, Durex, and Carlsberg. Maybe even Marlboro.

42, btw, is not the answer, nice reference, but 42 is not the answer to life, 13 has potential, but 42 defiantly is not the correct answer. Whereas 13 has all the roads leading up to it, it's sitting there between 12 and 14, not too far away from 11 or 15 either, its got potential, but mostly like the answer to life comes in one's and two's. Remember Math and Theory of Probability, if you do you get my point, if not, go study you lazy bum! :-P
Utopias don't exist dear, it's a thought the little girl with the strawberry lollipop up there put into our heads and culture to make us strive for perfection, solutions and what not, but never to achieve it. It's impossible. Either take my word for it or go read Brave New World and 1984, if you happen to not know either of these novels go find yourself a dark corner and die in shame, you philistine!
I know you asked us to be serious, up to this point I've only be trying to wrap everything up in an nice cosy fur coat (or if you happen to had fur, a leather coat, if you hate leather, it could have been silk, in case you hate silk, it's cotton, and in the highly unlikely event you're allergic to cotton; stop whining it's just a metaphor, Ghee!) I could have been Socrates, I never take anyone's word for anything, I question everything and people tend to hate me, check out the resemblance on this baby ;-P. In any case I've been a philosopher, a writer, a surgeon and pain in the ass (perhaps even a haemoid) in my past lives.
